Castor oil is extracted from the fruit of the castor bean plant (also known as Ricinus Communis), which bears the nickname wonder bean. However, the castor bean is not actually a legume (Leguminosae), and therefore the castor bean is not an "official bean." The castor bean plant owes its name to the incredible speed at which it grows. Originally, the castor plant came from East Africa, India, and the southeastern Mediterranean region. During the time of the slave trade, this plant found its way to the Caribbean. The castor bean plant now grows everywhere in the tropics.
Castor, or wonder oil, has been used for centuries. For example, it was already used by the Egyptians around 4000 BC. We know this because it has been found in various tombs. The ancient Greeks also appear to have known about castor oil. It had many applications, including medicinal ones, but nowadays we use wonder oil for fuller, stronger hair and an even skin. It is used purely, or in combination with other natural oils.
Because castor oil (ricinus oil) has a cleansing and nourishing effect, wonder oil is often used for dry skin. It also frees pores from bacteria, making the skin look flawless. Castor oil supports the skin's restorative capacity. Because its molecules have a small mass, the oil can easily penetrate into the deeper skin layers.
Castor oil contains essential Omega 9 fatty acids. This makes brittle or dry hair look healthy and shiny again.
