A simple at-home test to measure your TSH level. This thyroid-stimulating hormone normally ensures that the production of thyroid hormones (T4 and T3) – which are essential for normal growth and development and affect metabolism – occurs in the correct proportion.
Thyroid function:
The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped organ located at the front of the neck that produces thyroid hormones. These hormones (T3 and T4) are important in regulating many processes in the human body. They ensure normal growth and development and are an essential player for a balanced metabolism. When your thyroid is underactive, you have a deficiency of thyroid hormone in your body. This slows down your metabolism.
Typical characteristics of an underactive thyroid:
Reduced thyroid function can cause a range of complaints and problems. Often these are non-specific symptoms and signs whose severity varies from person to person.
Typical signs that may indicate an underactive thyroid are:
– weight gain,
– fatigue,
– listlessness and depressed mood,

1. How does the TSH test work? Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) activates the thyroid gland. Therefore, a TSH value of more than 5 IU/ml with a positive result indicates an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), which requires more TSH. The test is therefore suitable for testing whether your thyroid is underactive. In rare cases, the thyroid can also be overactive. This can only be determined in a lab after referral by your doctor. 2. When should the test be used? In the case of hypothyroidism, symptoms such as fatigue, feeling depressed or cold, weight gain, dry skin, brittle hair, persistent constipation, or irregular menstrual cycles (in women) occur. It is recommended to perform TSH-Check for screening purposes. TSH-Check can be used at any time of the day. However, it cannot and should not be performed in the case of hormonal medical treatment of the thyroid. 3. Can the result be inaccurate? The results are accurate as long as the instructions are carefully followed. Nevertheless, the result may be inaccurate if the TSH test gets wet before the test is performed or if the amount of blood added to the test is insufficient, or if the number of buffer drops is less than 2 or more than 3. The capillary dropper ensures that the collected blood volume is correct. In addition, due to the immunological principles involved, there is a possibility of false results in rare cases. For such tests, a consultation with the doctor is always recommended based on immunological principles. 4. How to interpret the test if the colour and intensity of the lines differ? The colour and intensity of the lines are not important for interpreting the result. The lines should only be homogeneous and clearly visible. The test should be considered positive, regardless of the colour intensity of the test line relative to the control line. 5. If I read the result after 20 minutes, is the result reliable? No. The result should be read 10 minutes after adding the buffer. The result is unreliable after more than 20 minutes. 6. What should I do if the result is positive? If the result is positive, it means that the TSH level in the blood is higher than normal (5 IU/ml) and that you should consult a doctor to show them the test result.
