Magnesium is an essential mineral that accounts for approximately 0.05% of total body weight. Nearly 70% of the body's magnesium supply is found in the bones, along with calcium and phosphorus, while 30% is found in cellular fluids and certain soft tissues. Approximately 30 to 40% of magnesium ingested through food is actually absorbed by the body, the rest is excreted in the stool.
Best natural sources
Magnesium is naturally abundant in foods, especially fresh, green vegetables. However, due to 'artificial' cultivation, the mineral content has been significantly reduced. Other sources include raw, unprocessed wheat germ, soybeans, milk, whole grains, shellfish, figs, corn, apples, and oil-rich seeds and nuts, especially almonds. Fish, garlic, tofu, peaches, apricots, and lima beans are also sources of magnesium.
Absorption and storage
Magnesium is absorbed in the small intestine. The absorption rate is influenced by parathyroid hormones, the rate of water absorption, and the amounts of calcium, phosphorus, and lactose in the body. Magnesium and calcium compete with each other for absorption. Absorption can be inhibited by phytates (in plant fibers) and by excessive fats, cod liver oil, or proteins. Foods rich in oxalic acid inhibit absorption. Vitamin D is necessary for the proper utilization of magnesium. When magnesium intake is low, absorption can reach up to 75%, if intake is high, absorption can drop to 25%. Losses increase with the use of diuretics and the consumption of alcohol.

Usage
Unless otherwise advised: 1-2 tablets per day. Optional: take 30 minutes before bedtime.
